Donald Holland Obituary

Donald Floyd Holland passed away January 7, 2024, from complications of Covid.  He was currently in hospice care.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Lee (nee Wilbur), and two sons, Eric Christopher and Hans Alexander.  He was born October 30, 1930.  He grew up in Dalton, Illinois, with his brother, Lee Holland, now deceased.  His parents were Lilian and Floyd Holland, also deceased.

He graduated from Thornton High School in Harvey, Illinois.  He earned his Bachelor's degree in Education at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois.  He earned his Master's degree in Math at the University of Chicago.

Don served in the United States Navy.  He was a Navy pilot who gave up his commission to marry the love of his life.  He was a member of the Navy Chorus and appeared on the Ed Sullivan television show in the early 1950's.

Don and Nancy were married in Pensacola, Florida, June 18, 1954.  They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary last June.

Don taught music at an elementary school in Harvey, Illinois, for several years.  But most of his career was spent teaching Math at Haven Middle School in Evanston, Illinois.

Don was always ready to give a helping hand and will be sorely missed by his entire family.
