David Tansley Obituary

David Tansley, a lifelong resident of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, was a constant presence in the lives of those who knew and loved him. Gentle in voice and warm in spirit, he was a beloved son, cherished brother, uncle, and friend, leaving behind a legacy marked by profound faith, compassion, and steadfast quiet strength.

David was the dear son of the late Marion & Harry Tansley; The loving brother of the late Mary Ann (late Don) Mitchell, Katheryn M. Tansley, Carol A. (late Robert) Blair & Thomas (Claire); The devoted uncle of Gloria, Christopher, late Jeffrey, Samantha, Marsha, Michael, Matthew & Shelly; The great-uncle of Abigail, Ariana, Levi & Keira

David was a lifelong member of St. Petronille, having graduated from the school and remained a devoted parishioner throughout his life. He faithfully attended the 5 o’clock Saturday evening Mass each week with his family, always seated in the second pew.

David was a dedicated bank manager for many years, taking great pride in his work and genuinely loving what he did. He was not only respected in his profession but also served as a mentor to those eager to learn about the banking industry. He became somewhat legendary for gifting crisp $2 bills around birthdays and the holiday season—a small but memorable tradition that brought smiles to many. He was also a mastershopper and lovingly dubbed the “king of returns.”

Simply put, David brought joy simply by being himself. His gift was making everyone in his company feel welcomed and important.

He was the heart of every family gathering, known not only for his attentive ear but also for his quick wit that sparked contagious laughter. He was always the welcomed guest for dinner, the friendly face at the grocery store, and the kind handshake at church. Always on the move, chance encounters with David around town were pleasant and frequent surprises. It didn’t matter the time or place -- he was happy to greet you. He also found great happiness in family trips to the lake in Tomahawk, where he loved swimming and learning how to fish from his dad.

Though he faced many medical challenges throughout his life, David's spirit remained unshakeable. He carried a quiet resilience, gentle smile, and immeasurable strength that inspired everyone around him. Even in his final days, he remained hopeful.

David Tansley will be remembered not only for the challenges he faced, but for the way he chose to continue to show up and live his life—with unwavering faith, kindness, and enduringhope.

His mantra was simple: “Never give up.” These words defined the way he lived and the inspiration he leaves behind.

While his absence leaves a profound void, he leaves us with memories of a courageous heart, a gentle spirit, and a life lived in virtue. His memory will live on in every kind gesture, shared laugh, and moment of grace we carry in his honor—he will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
