Charles E. Haugland, beloved husband of Lillian (nee: Gehanian), loving father of Teresa Pehta (Richard), Leslie Smith (William) and Brett Haugland (Sally). Loving Grandfather of Laine Pehta, Zachary Pehta, Dane Smith, Lafe Smith, Trey Smith, Brett Smith, Sam Haugland and Mackenzie Haugland. Uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Charles E. Haugland passed away peacefully at his home, 2 days after his 101st birthday, his loving wife and caregiver, Lillian by his side. They were married for 67 years. A veteran of World War II, he served his country in a most distinguished manner. Living in Glen Ellyn since 1956 in a home he designed and helped build. He achieved the American Dream through much hard work and sacrifice. He worked as an automobile body and fender man. He was an avid gardner, tending his yard, his Park District garden plot, and for many years, the garden at Faith Lutheran Church. Flowers and vegetables were sources of many hours of pleasure. Charles was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, where he connected with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as well as many members of the congregation who enjoyed his company and terrific sense of humor. He was a most devoted father and husband, deeply devoted to his entire family. We were blessed to have been a part of his life’s journey and will miss his presence, but we are comforted by remembering a life well lived
