Brigido “Boy” Montevirgen Monsalud, a retired mechanical engineer and longtime resident of Glen Ellyn, IL, died on October 11, 2021, at the age of 76. Boy was born in Lucapon, Sta. Cruz, Zambales Philippines on November 24, 1944, to Clemente Monsalud and Trinidad Montevirgen. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from Mapua Institute of Technology in the Philippines.
Boy is survived by his beloved family: his wife Teresa “Tracey Paro,” his brother Danny (Tess) and sister Phronsie; his children Gilbert and Kristin “Krissy” (William Chee Liang); his grandchildren Donovan “Kye,” Landon, Ryland and Aerin; his nieces April “Apple,” Kate, Krystal, Thea, and nephew Gabriel “Gabby.” He was preceded in death by his sister Oci and brother Ben.
Boy grew up loving outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, and gardening. A constant tinkerer, you could always find him around the house, doing home improvement projects - such as a shelving system in the garage. In his spare time, he watched television, especially westerns, “Wheel of Fortune,” and “The Price is Right.” But what would always be appointment viewing for Boy was boxing. He never grew tired of watching reruns of Manny Pacquiao, the pride of his homeland.
What people might not have known about him was his cooking skills, earning him the title "Adobo Lolo," awarded by his grandchildren because his adobo was simply the best! He also was a kid at heart, always making jokes or reciting corny puns, which made him a natural with kids. Some say he had as much of a mischievous nature as some of the kids that he joked around with.
As a devout Catholic, Boy attended a weekly novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help at St. Matthews and was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. James the Apostle Church. He was always devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren in his enduring love to do whatever they had asked - because to him, it was "no problem" (his favorite line). He was a generous man who was truly loved and respected by his family and friends, along with his classmates and colleagues.
