Betty Evans Obituary

Betty Walter Evans, 92, of Glen Ellyn, IL, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at Season’s Hospice Facility in Naperville, IL with family by her side.  She was born February 14, 1929, in Cincinnati (Norwood) Ohio to August and Lillian Walter.  She grew up and attended school in the Indian Hill neighborhood of Cincinnati.  While working at Cincinnati Milling and Grinding, she met her future husband, Thomas E Evans.  They were married on September 19, 1953, in Cincinnati, Ohio.  They began their married life together in the Oakley neighborhood of Cincinnati where their first son was born.  In 1955, they moved to Glen Ellyn, purchasing their first home on Spring Avenue.  In 1966, Tom and Betty built their family home on Lowell Avenue in Glen Ellyn where their raised their four children.

Betty worked as a seamstress and dress maker early in her life and created many wonderful garments for herself and family over the years.  Later in life, she learned to quilt and created many beautiful quilts which were gifted to friends and family.  She was an active member of the various Quilt Guilds along with a serving as a key quilter in the local Quilting Bee.  Betty contributed countless hours to the quilting groups of Faith Lutheran Church, Glen Ellyn, IL, and Bethany Lutheran Church of Republic, MI, lovingly making quilts for local community needs along with sending 100s of quilts through Lutheran World Relief.

Tom and Betty purchased a summer cabin on Horseshoe Lake near Republic, MI in 1987.   The summer cabin provided great times with many wonderful friends and Betty enjoyed providing scrumptious dishes for the countless potlucks with neighbors.  Sunset pontoon rides on Horseshoe Lake were a special evening treat for Tom and Betty.

Betty was an excellent cook and loved to host gourmet club for friends along with fantastic dinners for her family.  Betty was wonderful at connecting with friends and family near and far – always sending thank you notes and special note cards.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Thomas Evans, of Glen Ellyn; children Thomas  (Karen) Evans of Racine, WI, Karen Evans of Wheaton, IL, John (Kathy Jo) Evans of Wenatchee, WA; one grandchild Zachary Evans of Kenosha, WI; sister Ann (Dick) Apgar of Cincinnati, OH; as well as many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother George and son Charles Evans in 1999.
