Alvin “Al” Wesley Jennings, 83, of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, passed away on July 10, 2022. Al was
born in Gary, Indiana on February 1, 1939, the son of the late Lathair “Larry” Beam (father), Velma
Hlohinec Jennings (mother) and Marshal Jennings (stepfather).
In 1956, Al graduated from Fenger High School. He continued his studies at the University of
Illinois, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Geology. After graduation he became a
commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corps. Al retired as a Colonel after 3 years of
active duty and 27 years in the US Marine Corps Reserves. Further, he had a 30 year career
with IBM Chicago in sales and marketing, retiring in 1993.
He enjoyed anything to do with the US Marine Corps, especially watching the Marine Band or
attending the Friday evening Marine Parade in Washington, DC in the summertime. Al loved
traveling around the world, especially to visit his extended family in Slovakia. He loved
woodworking, collecting clocks and spending time with his loving and caring family.
Al is survived by his loving wife Donna Jennings (Reed) of nearly 62 years. Al and Donna met in
1958 at the University of Illinois, fell in love and were married July 30, 1960. Together they
raised three wonderful children. He is survived by his son Michael Glenn, and Mike’s son Tyler
Michael, Al’s only grandson, Michael’s wife Angela Maria, Al’s other sons, Thomas Scott and
Daniel Wesley. Also, Al is survived by his niece Carol, predeceased husband Mark Lamb, great
nieces Elizabeth, Rachel and great nephew Josh, his nephew Jim Eaton, wife Dawn, great
nephews Danny, Mathew, his nephew Mark Cederberg, wife Christine, great niece Klara, great nephew Henry, his nephew Jeff Reed, wife Julie, great nephews Josh, Jim and
great niece Jennifer.
Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church 550 N. Main Street, Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
Saturday, July 16th, viewing from 10:00-11:00 am and memorial service will follow.
