Fran Collord, 65, of Bloomingdale, IL, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2018, after her second battle with cancer.
Fran was born to Desmond and Kathryn (nee Mally) Collord in Melrose Park, IL. She grew up in Glen Ellyn, IL and attended Glenbard West High School, graduating in 1971. Her college career was spent at Northern Illinois University and after graduation she went on to open her own graphic design business, ALPS Graphic Services, which she successfully ran for 38 years. Fran enjoyed knowing her many long term customers and suppliers along with the new ones that came along each year.
She is survived by her brother, Ross Collord of Rio Rancho, NM and sister, Julie Moore (Bob) of Wheaton; five nephews, Christopher (Krista Black), Jeffrey and Andrew Collord and Mitchell (fiancée Alison Brooks) and Brian Moore; god- daughter, Diana Mendez. Fran was preceded in death by her parents.
Fran was an amazing talent who found great creative joy in the arts and a variety of crafts. She happily used these along with her graphic design skills to benefit many philanthropic organizations she supported and even those that her family and friends were involved with. Fran created posters, promotional pieces and brochures to help these organizations with fund raisers and special events without ever charging for her time.
Serving as an ESL volunteer for many years, Fran enjoyed giving her time to those who were working on their English. She loved meeting people from many different countries and did all she could to make them feel welcome. Also, Fran was an active volunteer member of the Friends of the Bloomingdale Public Library committee for several years.
Her latest artistic passion was working with Polymer clay, a sculpting medium, and she designed many different kinds of beautiful objects and jewelry. Fran so enjoyed the creative process of the clay molding, and working in her art studio was a real source of relaxation. We are so happy to have items she lovingly created over the years as remembrances of her.
She had a big heart for animals and especially for pets in need. Fran rescued several over the years and welcomed them into her home, lovingly making them a part of her family
Fran was so grateful to all of her friends and family who walked with her through the past 6 months and appreciated the loving kindness and encouragement that they extended to her. She spent too much of the last months in the hospital and in physical rehab and yet used that time to make many new friends among all the people she encountered along this path. Our special thanks to Palliative Care Nurse, Carol and Hospice Nurse, Tina.
