Dear grandfather of Matt and Lindsay LaPointe and Drew Werntz. Dick graduated from Springfield High School in 1951. During his high school summers, he attended Culver Military School in Indiana. In 1955, Dick received his college degree from Cornell University School of Hotel Administration. His career spanned 36 years; first as Motel Manager at Albert Pick Hotel Corp., then as Bakery and Food Service Regional Manager for Pillsbury. For 20 years, at the Illinois State Fair, Dick and his parents ran the food service for all the 4H participants. Dick was a 50-year resident of Glen Ellyn. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church serving on the Board of Deacons and later as an usher. For several years, Dick was an active volunteer for DuPage Pads, which provides overnight housing and meals for the homeless, and at the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry. Over the years, Dick enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends playing golf and tennis. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 23rd, 4:30 to 7:30 pm, at Leonard Memorial Funeral Home at 565 Duane Street in Glen Ellyn.
