Erik Alexander “Lonnie” Lonvick
Erik Alexander Lonvick, 18, of Glen Ellyn, IL, was born on August 22, 2005 and passed away on March 3, 2024. He died a week after an utterly unexpected cardiac event caused by asymptomatic Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. The family appreciates the staff members at Advent-Health GlenOaks and Lurie Children’s Hospital, who cared for Erik with skill and heart.
At Glenbard West High School, Erik was known and loved as Lonnie. A senior, he was proud to wear #77 as an offensive tackle for the school’s football team (the Hitters), and he was deciding where to go to college, after receiving several offers to play college football. Earlier this year, he earned Eagle Scout honors with Troop 45 after completing a trail markers project at Lambert Lake in Glen Ellyn. He was baptized, confirmed, and well loved at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Wheaton. Lonnie had a beautiful smile, a positive and playful energy, and a big laugh, all of which were underscored by a deep kindness and a caring heart. He had an ever-growing circle of friends of all ages.
Erik is survived by his mother Linda Lance Lonvick of Aurora, his grandfather William Lance, his uncle James Lance, and his aunt Cindy Hanks. He is also survived by his father Eric Andrew Lonvick of Glen Ellyn, his grandmother Ray Nell Lonvick, and his aunts Mailynn Lonvick, Jill Lonvick, and Beth Lonvick Cheuk (and family). His extended family lives in the U.S. and Norway. He was also loved like a son by several other families in Glen Ellyn.
Visiting hours will be on Friday, March 8, from 3-8 pm at Leonard Memorial Funeral Home (565 Duane St, Glen Ellyn). A memorial service will take place at Holy Cross Lutheran Church (802 E Geneva Rd, Wheaton and live streamed at holycrosswheaton.org on Saturday, March 9, at 11 am CST, followed by a community reception at the Lake Ellyn Boathouse (645 Lenox Rd, Glen Ellyn) hosted by the Glenbard West Football Program.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to either Holy Cross Lutheran Church or to a GoFundMe that will initially support the immediate needs of the family, but which will also fund either proactive cardiac testing for students at Glenbard West High School or a scholarship in Lonnie’s memory.
The family wishes to thank the community – as well as friends and family from afar – for the outpouring of support and love that we have felt.
