Robert G. Banks

June 16, 1925 ~ July 11, 2016 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Robert Glenn Banks, DDS., passed away July 11, 2016, in the comfort of his home. He was born June 16, 1925, in Pittsburg, Illinois, to the late Artie and Ethel (Crosson) Banks. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a SV6 Hospital Apprentice First Class, where he earned the American Theater Ribbon and a Victory Medal. In 1948, Robert married "the star of his life" and wife of 65 years, Stella, and together they raised five children. Robert went on to graduate from Loyola School of Dentistry in 1956, after which he practiced dentistry at the Geneva School for Girls until 1962 when he opened his own practice in Glen Ellyn, where he practiced until he retired at the age of 72. Robert served as President of The West Suburban Dental Society from 1987 - 1988 and Director of the West Suburban Dental Society from 1991 - 1994. Living the majority of his life in Glen Ellyn, Robert was very active in St. James the Apostle Catholic Parish, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was also very active in Boy Scouts, the Chicago Dental Society, where he served on many committees, and was an avid traveler and golfer. Robert was also dedicated to the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He leaves behind his children, Robert, Jr. (Claudia); Thomas, Sr. (Mary); Susan (Steve) Jones; Gregory (Ginger); and Valerie (Kirt) Haggard. Robert is also the loving grandfather of Jack (Emily) Jones; Steve, Jr. (Eli) Jones; Catie (Chris) Peterson, Thomas, Jr. Banks; Shannon (Dan) McCormick; Jeremy (Kate) Banks; John Banks; Jessie (Dalton) Ilbery; Wendy (Jason) Mullins; Laura (Ryan) Ijames; Nicole Haggard; and Abby Haggard. Robert also enjoyed his 19 great-grandchildren: Samantha, Ashley, Auston, Micah, Cole, Bennett, Logan, Luke, Radon, Emily, Grace, True, Connor, Kaedance, Audrey, Xander, Joshua, Caleb and Rory. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Stella, and his siblings, Patrick Crosson; Artie Eugene Banks, Jr., Oren Banks, and Eleanor Simmons.Visitation will be Sunday July 24th from 2-9 PM at the Leonard Memorial Funeral Home, 565 Duane St. Glen Ellyn (630-469-0032 & www.leonardmemorialhome.com).
