Raymond "Sam" Valentine

Raymond “Sam” Valentine, age 87, passed away on July 9, 2017. Born January 6, 1930 in Hinsdale, IL, to Ray and Clara (McElroy) Valentine. Sam was the beloved husband for 58 years to the late Theresa (Koerber) Valentine; loving father of Anthony (Milagros), Grace, Tom (Kathy), Barbara (Don Washburn), Paul (Mary), and Peter Valentine; beloved grandfather of Brian, Katie, Vanessa, Andy, Dominic, and Clara; great grandfather of Becca and Beth; beloved brother of Mary Patricia (Jim) Hand of Rockville, MD, the late Robert E (Diane) Valentine of Thousand Oaks, CA; brother-in-law Sylvester Koerber of Vienna, MO and special uncle to Jim Ryan and other nieces and nephews. Sam had a quick smile and a good work ethic. In his younger days, he was a newspaper boy, a caddy, and a soda jerk. He went on to attend the University of Missouri, Columbia and graduated with a chemistry degree. In 1986, he retired from the U.S. Customs Service which allowed him time to travel with his wife. When Theresa became ill and he could no longer care for her at home, he would visit her daily at the DuPage Convalescent Center where he eventually became a STAR volunteer. His kindness, loyalty, generosity and humor were witnessed by all.  He will be sorely missed.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 14 from 4-8 PM at Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane Street, Glen Ellyn, IL. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017, 10 AM, at St. Petronille Catholic Church, 420 Glenwood Ave, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137. Internment at Assumption Cemetery, Wheaton, IL.
