Welcome to the memorial page for

LaVerne Turner

March 4, 1924 ~ August 21, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old

LaVerne M. Turner, age 93, passed away on August 21, 2017 at Johnson Health Care Center in Windsor Park in Carol Stream, Illinois.

She is survived by her son Timothy Neil Turner, of Warrenville Illinois, and his wife Julie, as well as beloved nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by her husband William F. Turner, her parents Curt and Susanna Margret (nee Jochem) Letsche, and her brothers Charles Letsche and Curt Letsche.

LaVerne was born on March 4, 1924 in Chicago, the youngest of three children. She graduated from Steinmetz High School in 1942. She wanted to be an artist, and had a wonderful eye for fashion.  After high school, she began work as a key punch operator.  She met her husband Bill at the Aragon Ball Room in Chicago, and they married in 1945.  They lived in a three-flat with her parents until they bought their own home in Chicago in the mid 1950’s.  After twenty years of marriage, she gave birth to her son Tim, and stopped working to care for him and their home.  In the 1970’s, she moved with her family to a wonderful home in Palatine, Illinois on a lake where they hosted many parties with family and friends. When Tim started school, she went back to work in high-end dress shops, one in Randhurst Mall, and later at Satin & Lace in Long Grove.  After her husband died in 2005, she moved to a beautiful apartment at Windsor Park in Carol Stream, Illinois where she lived for 12 years.

LaVerne loved to dance, good music, playing games and enjoyed shopping and many outings into the city with her Mother and many friends and family members.  She and her husband Bill hosted many dance parties in their home, when everyone came and enjoyed great food and music in an era when everyone dressed up for these events.  She was a great cook, loved baking (and eating) sweets, and entertaining.  After moving to Palatine, Bill taught her to drive, but she still remembered all public transportation routes in the city.  She loved her son Tim, and was devoted to caring for him.

A visitation and memorial service is scheduled for Friday, August 25, 2017, at Leonard Memorial Funeral Home, 565 Duane Street, Glen Ellyn IL 60137 from 4pm to 8pm.  A memorial service will begin at 7pm.  We will meet for dinner afterwards at a restaurant to be determined.  Pastor Wendell Hawley will officiate.

All are welcome to attend and celebrate LaVerne’s life. The family would like to especially thank the staff of Johnson Health Care Center at Windsor Park and of Covenant Care Hospice for their devoted and loving care for our Mom.  Flowers and donations can be sent to Leonard Memorial Funeral Home, or to Tim and Julie Turner.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one of the following in loving memory of Laverne M.
