Jean H. Finch, age 100 and longtime resident of Glen Ellyn and Wheaton, passed away peacefully September 22, 2016 at Brookdale Glen Ellyn,
her residence for the last five years. She is the beloved wife of the late
Robert L. Finch, Jr.; loving mother of Robert L. Finch lll (Melissa Lain•Finch)
and the late L. Hunter Finch; dear grandmother of Lisa Finch and Teresa Finch Levine; great-grandmother of Avery Finch and Dylyn Levine; devoted daughter
of the late Irvine Mowat and Ida Hunter of Chicago.

After her last child left home, Jean began a long career as secretary at the DuPage Bank & Trust Co. (now US Bank) in downtown Glen Ellyn. This proved to be a truly major event in Jean’s life because she loved interacting with people and as a result, she developed many long-term friendships with fellow employees and bank customers.

Jean’s passion for learning about nature and the universe around her led to a decades long membership and classes at The Morton Arboretum, (where she developed her love of birdwatching) and attending lectures at Fermilab. She was also as a longtime member of the Art Institute of Chicago. Additionally, Jean took advantage of the adult education program at College of DuPage where she studied watercolor painting, Spanish and stayed physically active with swimming, water aerobics, line dancing and other classes. For several decades, Jean was active in the Glen Ellyn chapter of P.E.O. International, an organization dedicated to assisting woman with their educational goals. When she wasn’t doing the above, Jean loved to travel the world to see new things and meet new people, and often shared those scenes in her yearly watercolor holiday cards for family and friends. With each of these activities and interests, she developed new friendships.

Her celebration of life gathering will be Saturday, October 1st from 12:30 PM until time of a brief program at 3:30 PM at Leonard Memorial Funeral Home, 565 Duane St. Glen Ellyn (630-469-0032). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean’s name to The Morton Arboretum, Lisle, IL www.mortonarb.org.
