Welcome to the memorial page for

Janet E. Hutzler

August 25, 1941 ~ June 28, 2017 (age 75) 75 Years Old

Janet E. (Meyer) Hutzler passed away peacefully in her home Wednesday morning, June 28th at age 75 after a brave, lengthy battle with colorectal cancer.  She was the beloved wife of Wayne R. Hutzler for 50 years before his passing; loving mother of Karin (Mike) Cokenour, David (Darcy), and Rob (Alison); doting grandmother of Nathan, Hannah, Nick, Claire and Will; fond sister of George Meyer and Dave Meyer; dear aunt of 6.
Born to George and Ella Meyer in Chicago, Jan was the youngest of three and first in her family to earn a college degree.  She went on to be a Household Engineer of the highest order and a great role model for their children.  Over the years she delivered lunches to seniors with Hot Meals, was a tireless church volunteer and faithful choir participant where she was a member for over 40 years.  In later years at the Mark Morton Memorial Fund in Chicago, she assisted low-income and disabled clients with accessing benefits and services.  Jan also served as Secretary for The Reliquarians, and greatly enjoyed the Chicagoland outings and various speakers.
Jan had a great sense of fun and appreciated the absurd. She was blessed with many friendships, some lifelong.   Her cooking skills were legendary, and she had the amazing ability to take whatever was on hand and create something delicious for dinner.  As a self-proclaimed “frugal German,” she was a master of deal-hunting:  shopping was a serious sport.  She may have held a record for making every one of our school plays, choir and sporting events.  Her grandchildren’s successes in school, music and sports never ceased to make her proud.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 5th from 4-8pm at the Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane Street in Glen Ellyn.  Funeral service Thursday, July 6th at 10am at Grace Lutheran Church of Glen Ellyn, 493 Forest Avenue.  Interment will be private at Forest Hill Cemetery in Glen Ellyn.  In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to Grace Lutheran Church of Glen Ellyn.  For more information, call 630-469-0032.
