Helen Doyle Weithman

Helen Doyle Weithman passed away on November 29, 2016 at 98 years.  Her death was quiet and she was ready to meet the Lord.   She had lived in Glen Ellyn for the past 15 years first at The Meadows and then Autumn Leaves.   She lived in Elmwood Park for 45 years and was an active member of Saint Celestine’s Church and a tireless volunteer at the St. Celestine Grade School.  But she always defined herself as Irish, particularly “Chicago West Side Irish”.   Helen was married for 52 years to Charles J. Weithman.  He died in 1993.  They had two daughters, Kathleen (Joseph) Strobel and Joanne (Steve) Budge.  They had six grandchildren: John Patrick (Laura)Strobel, Lisa Strobel, Charles J. Strobel, Jay Strobel, Cody (Becky)Budge and Peter (Michelle) Budge. She has seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents Helen and Edward Doyle as well as her three brothers and their wives: Edward (Pat) Doyle, Gene (Ginny) and Jack (Bernadette) Doyle.  She is survived by countless nieces and nephews and godchildren.  She was an excellent card player.  Bridge was her game and she knew it well.  The last year of her life she began playing draw poker as well as solitaire and handled the cards well despite her age.  Above all she lived until the Cubs won the World Series!  She understood that and celebrated! Visitation will be held on Sunday December 4th, 2016 from 3-9PM at Leonard Memorial Funeral Home, 565 Duane St., Glen Ellyn, Illinois and Mass will be held the following day Monday at St. Matthew’s Church in Glendale Heights at 10:30 AM. Buried to follow at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Illinois.  You may leave from church and join us at the cemetery but due to the distance there will be no funeral procession.  After cemetery prayers we will meet for luncheon.   Please omit flowers and make donations in Helen’s name to Sunday Mass at Mercy Home 1140 W Jackson Blvd Chicago, IL 60607.
