Harold E. Chaney, 88, of Glen Ellyn, formerly of Arcola, passed away on January 11, 2017, at his home.

Funeral services were held at the First Congregational Church of Glen Ellyn on January 17, with burial at Forest Hill Cemetery in Glen Ellyn.

Mr. Chaney was born on July 13, 1928 in Yale, Illinois, the son of Walter Bilby and Freda Mildred (King) Chaney.  He married Doris Wetherholt on November 6, 1949 in Dietrich, Illinois, and she survives. 

Harold is also survived by his son, Michael Chaney, and his wife Amie, of Morris, Illinois, and his daughter, Gail Chaney Kalinich, and her husband Kevin, of Glen Ellyn; seven grandchildren, Phillip (Janet) Chaney, Rebecca Cook (Dave), James Andrew (Amy) Chaney, Elizabeth (Bill) Pankau, Rachel Chaney, Adam Kalinich and Chaney Kalinich; seven great-grandchildren, Dylan, Peter, Kassi, Jon, Autumn, Connor and Logan; and one brother, Marion Raymond (Yvonne) Chaney of Debary, FL.  Harold’s parents, one brother, Herbert Lyle (Linda) Chaney of Mattoon, IL, and two granddaughters, Katherine Marie and Michelle Rose Chaney, preceded him in death.

Harold is a WWII veteran having served 4 years in the US Navy.  He was a resident of Arcola for more than 50 years where he was active in the community, elected to the City Council, and was a member, Deacon, and Chairman of the Board of the First Christian Church of Arcola. He was employed as Superintendent of Maintenance at USI Chemical Corporation in Tuscola for 37 years, retiring in 1990.  Following his retirement, Harold enjoyed helping others in Arcola, playing golf, and having coffee with various friends around town.  The Chaneys moved to Glen Ellyn in 2004, where they became active in serving meals to the homeless through Public Action to Deliver Shelter at the First Congregational Church of Glen Ellyn and enjoyed working out at Ackerman Sports Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations in Harold's honor to the Arcola Foundation, P.O. Box 100, Arcola, IL 61910.
