Remembering

Eleanore Banks Weimer

Eleanore Banks Weimer, 90, a resident of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, died October 23, 2017 in Wheaton, Illinois.

Eleanore was born on February 24, 1927, in Niagara Falls, NY to Chester and Mary (Gaska) Banks.  She attended Fredonia State Teacher's College where she met her spouse and the love of her life, Frederick Terry Weimer.  Eleanore graduated with a degree in Music Education in June 1948 and she and Fred were married on August 21, 1948.

Eleanore and Fred resided in Niagara Falls, NY where she taught music, and where Gregory Mark was born (1950), and Lockport, NY where Beth Ellen was born (1952).  They moved to Kenmore NY, a suburb of Buffalo, then to Pittsburgh, PA where Eric Bradford was born (1959), and relocated to Elmhurst, IL where Andrew Banks was born (1962).  In Elmhurst, Eleanore and Fred were active members of Mary, Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and Eleanore gave piano lessons in her home.

Eleanore and Fred moved to Glen Ellyn in 1965 and became members of St. Petronille’s Catholic Church.  From 1970, Eleanore taught school at St. Pet’s in the primary grades for many years, also working as a music teacher before her retirement in 1989.

Eleanore and Fred had a wide and loving group of close friends in Elmhurst and in Glen Ellyn from Joyce Ct., where they lived, and from St. Pet’s.  Music was always an important part of Eleanore and Fred’s life and their friends enjoyed many get-togethers circled around the piano as Fred played show tunes and Eleanore led the singing.

Eleanore was always active in the Church and the school and had numerous outside interests such as gardening, playing cards, playing scrabble and tutoring.  Eleanore kept a beautiful garden in their many residences, including their winter home in Naples, Fl., where Fred passed away in 2006.  While in Florida, the kids, grandkids and friends were always welcomed by Eleanore and Fred to a sunny respite from cold northern winters.

Eleanore resided at Brookdale Senior Center in Glen Ellyn following Fred’s death and had many happy, active years with friends and family, where she still maintained a beautiful garden on her balcony!

Eleanore was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Mary Banks (Rairie); husband Fred, close friends, Eddie Milewski and Glen Schraff, grandson Karl Weimer and younger brother Mark Banks.  Eleanore is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Chester (Bud) Carl and Kathy Banks, sister, Joyce Salda and sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Banks, children Greg (Connie), Beth (Paul), Eric and Andrew (Megan).  Six grandchildren and their spouses, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive Eleanore.

Eleanore will be greatly missed by family and friends.  Throughout her retirement, students that she taught at St. Pet’s would recognize her and come over to re-introduce themselves, remembering fondly one of their favorite teachers.
