Donal A. Olsen

Donal A. Olsen of Glen Ellyn age 94 passed away on September 23rd, 2016.  Beloved husband of Evelyn for 70 years; dear father of Donal Alan Jr. (Carol), Bret George, Diane (Peter Ortolano) and Jon Kurt (Betty); dear grandfather of Mark Olsen & Matthew (Lizzie) Ortolano and great-grandfather of Jack Ortolano.  Donal served in the U.S. Navy & Army Air Force during WW II. He received a BAS in Architecture at the Univ. of Illinois and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He then practiced as an Architect for 55 years, including industrial, zoo and aquarium projects - most notably the Seven Seas Panorama at Brookfield Zoo, the 1st Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn and the Coral Reef Tank at the Shedd Aquarium. He served with the International Executive Service Corp. in Singapore and Egypt. He was a member of the Glen Ellyn Rotary and the Glen Oak Country Club in Glen Ellyn; Director and Past President of the John G. Shedd Aquarium in Chicago; past Director of the Glen Ellyn Public Library and served on several committees for the Village of Glen Ellyn. A celebration of life service will be held Friday, September 30th at 11 AM at the 1st Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn, 550 N. Main St. Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers donations appreciated to the 1st Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn.    Arrangements handled by Leonard Memorial Funeral Home of Glen Ellyn (630-469-0032)
