Constance "Connie" Cleveland Zimmermann, 81, passed away very peacefully on June 27, 2013 at the home of her daughter, Vivian Bennett, in Slinger, Wisconsin. She was born on June 30, 1931 in New Rochelle, New York to James Lyle and Marjorie Cleveland Miller. Connie grew up in New York, Michigan, Illinois and Ohio, but Sarasota, Florida was her home. She graduated from Sarasota High School in Sarasota, FL on May 31, 1949. After high school, she attended Florida State University where she received a degree in Political Science and was also a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society. Connie was very active during her high school years - cheerleading, band, basketball team, water skiing, and other activities She married her childhood friend , Richard M. Zimmermann on September 4, 1954, while he was stationed in Germany as an Army officer. They made many German friends while there, but became especially close friends with Ernst and Helga Roschild. They remained lifelong friends and visited each other over the years. Connie and Richard lived in Riverside and Glen Ellyn, IL, Highland Park and Manistee, MI, & West Bend, WI. They made many great friends that provided many wonderful times over the years. Connie and Richard loved to travel, and went all over the world during their 54 years of marriage, many of those trips with friends and relatives.

Connie loved to read, play tennis, ski, swim, boat, hike, listen to music, golf and engage in lively conversation. She was also very civic minded, always striving to make where ever she lived a better place by volunteering. She started in the League of Women Voters back in the 50's and joined other groups as well. She was Village President of Glen Ellyn from 1973-1977, and served on numerous other boards and commissions - North Eastern Illinois Planning Commission, DuPage Mayors and Managers, DuPage County Board Member, Illinois Municipal League Board Member, Chairman of the Board of Central DuPage Hospital, Portage Lake Garden Club, Portage Lake Association, and Portage Lake Yacht Club.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents James L. and Marjorie C. Miller, her husband Richard and son John R. Zimmermann. Connie is survived by her son Robert Zimmermann and daughter- in-law Sherry of Hinckley, IL, her daughter Vivian and son-in-law George Bennett of Slinger, WI, her brother James L. Miller, Jr. of Concord, CA, and her sister Vivian and brother-in-law Dennis Parrott of Encino, CA. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, grand and great grandchildren and in-laws. A memorial service will be held at Leonard Memorial Home of Glen Ellyn at 5:30-7:00 PM, August 1, 2013. The family will be greeting friends and relatives from 5:30-6:30 PM with a service starting at 6:30-7:00 PM.
